- Born on 7 November 1888 at Thiruchirapalli, Tamilnadu.
- He discovered that, when light traverses a transparent material, some of the deflected light changes in wavelength.
- This phenomenon is now called Raman effect.
- Raman Effect earned him the 1930 Nobel Prize for Physics.
- C V Raman was the first Asian who got Nobel Prize in science.
- Raman Effect was invented on 1928 Feb 28(National Science Day).
- In 1954, he was honoured with the highest civilian award in India, the Bharat Ratna.
