- PanditKaruppan was a poet, dramatist, and social reformer who lived in Kerala.
- He was called the "Lincoln" of Kerala for steering socio-economically and educationally backward communities to the forefront.
- K.P. Karuppan (KandathiparambilPaapuKaruppan) was born on 24 May 1885, at Cheranelloor, near Ernakulam.

- ThoughKaruppan's childhood name was Sankaran, the name Karuppan was given to him by a Tamil Gosai who was a family friend.
- His first poem was Sthothramandaaram.
- Karuppan's famous work Jathikummi, which criticised the prevailing caste system, was written in 1904.
- Impressed by Karuppan, Kerala VarmaValiyaKoilThampuran of Travancore, known as Kerala Kalidasan for his translation of Shakunthalam into Malayalam, conferred the title of Vidwan upon him in 1913.
- In 1925, he was nominated as a member of the Cochin Legislative Council.
- In 1932, he was appointed lecturer of Sanskrit at the Maharaja's College.
- The Maharaja of Cochin honoured Karuppan with the title Kavithilakan or Great Poet.
- Aggrieved by the death of SreeChattambiSwamikal, Karuppan wrote a condolence poem titled Samadhi Sapthakam.
- PanditKaruppan died of pleurisy on 23 March 1938 at the age of 53.
